A flash flood watch is in effect for Kauai, Niihau and Maui through 6 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service Thursday.
A surge of moisture from the south and an unstable airmass will result in periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms across the smaller islands through the night, according to the NWS.
A flash flood watch means conditions could develop that lead to flash flooding.
The public is advised to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
