WAILUA — The season opening race for the Kauai Moto Cross Association was postponed Sunday at the Wailua Moto Cross track due to weather conditions.
“We’re going to try for next Sunday, weather permitting,” said Devin Prado, the KMXA president who manned a tractor smoothing dirt. “We were OK until the lightning started flashing.”
The race was postponed due to concern over safety.
“Safety is always a top priority,” Prado said. “It’s also a chance for the track to settle because we’re still working on finishing the keiki track and made improvements to the main track. Right now, the dirt is still soft so if the riders went out in this weather, it would cancel out all our efforts.”
Gates open to the Wailua Moto Cross track Sunday morning with the keiki races starting the day — weather permitting.
