WAILUA – The body of the female visitor who went missing Saturday evening while on a kayak tour on the Wailua River was found this morning.
The Kauai Fire Department began their search at approximately 7:30 a.m. and located the decedent shortly afterward.
The victim’s name will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
The woman became separated from her tour group on the Wailua River at approximately 5 p.m. when flash flood conditions occurred near Uluwehi Falls.
The others on the tour, seven visitors and a guide, were rescued and released at the scene.
Air 1 with Rescue 3 aboard flew three trips to the river and airlifted the kayakers to Wailua Homesteads Park, where a landing zone was established. They were then turned over to Engine 2 and Medic 23. The victims were checked by the first responders and released.
Kauai remains under a Flash Flood Watch at least until this afternoon.
