Allow us to introduce Olivia and Nancy.
Olivia is a 2-year-old girl diagnosed with a hearing loss. She has been receiving early-intervention services since birth. She wears a hearing aid which is covered by insurance but the batteries for the hearing aid are expensive and not covered by insurance. Her family works hard to make sure she always has batteries so that she can hear. This family could really use a nice meal and some age-appropriate toys for Olivia.
Nancy is a 1-year-old girl born with a cleft palate. She has to have surgery to repair it. Nancy will have to go back to Oahu several more times to make sure everything is healing correctly. Her mom is single and living with her sister as she cannot afford a place to live on her own. She just recently had another child. Mom would like to be able to make a merry Christmas for Nancy by buying her some toys with which to play.
These keiki are among the people The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund hopes to help during the holidays. Donations to the Christmas Fund will be distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at local stores to make wishes come true.
Each donated dollar is accounted for and carefully recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries. Volunteers run the show.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund or know of one, let us know and we’ll spread the word. Anyone making a donation of $50 or more may have their picture presenting the check to Zonta published in TGI.
The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund was established in the early 1980s and has helped thousands of families.
Only monetary donations are accepted. Checks payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI 96766. For more information, call Dimples Kano at 822-4517.
Others needing assistance this Christmas season:
w Mikey is a 1-year-old twin with an underdeveloped arm that has caused some developmental delays. His parents are young and doing the best they can to provide all his needs but it’s difficult as he has a lot of doctor appointments. Mikey could really use some educational toys and books with which to play.
w Crystal, 1, was born severely premature and has been in the Easter Seals Intervention Program since birth. She has two older sisters as well. Mom is single and works hard to provide for her family. Crystal could really use some fun, musical toys with which to play. She really likes toys that make sounds.
