Levi is a 14-year-old male who has spent most of his life on Kauai.
At a young age, Levi’s parents left him with relatives and never returned for him. This traumatic event left Levi feeling abandoned and unwanted. Without his parents around to raise him, Levi bounced back and forth between relatives and foster families.
Johan was born and raised on Kauai and has spent most of his life homeless or living in shelters across the island. His parents have been unable to provide for Jonah’s basic needs due to severe medical problems.
To cope with the stress of his situation, Jonah likes to spend time at the beach fishing and body boarding.
Both young men could use some Christmas cheer.
Johan would like some new fins or a body board as well as basic necessities like clothing and toiletries.
Levi would enjoy getting new clothing, shoes and would really love a new bike.
Johan and Levis are among the people The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund hopes to help during the holidays. Donations to the Christmas Fund will be distributed by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at local stores to make wishes come true.
Each donated dollar is accounted for and carefully recorded. There are no administrators collecting salaries. Volunteers run the show.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund or know of one, let us know and we’ll spread the word. Anyone making a donation of $50 or more may have their picture presenting the check to Zonta published in TGI.
The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund was established in the early 1980s and has helped thousands of families.
Only monetary donations are accepted. Checks payable to Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihue, HI 96766. For more information, call Dimples Kano at 822-4517.
