KAPAA — AARP will host a free caregiver conference for the public on Saturday at the Marriott Courtyard at Coconut Beach in Kapaa.
“There are hundreds of people on Kauai who help older people,” said Janice Bond, legislative advocate for AARP. “We have many people who are not only caregiving elders, but also for their children as well.
The conference will have four workshops that will discuss physical health, legal advice, home modifications to better suit the elderly and more. Bond hopes the conference will be a resource for those who need help.
“Families can get stressed out,” Bond said. “If you go to hospice, they work and care (for the elderly). If we know who these caregivers are, we can direct them to something like this so they don’t get burned out.”
Bond is expecting a good turnout.
“We’d liked to accommodate as many people as possible,” Bond said. “In the past, we’ve had as many as 100 people come for different seminars.”
The conference has been rescheduled from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
