It works! Katheryn Ledesma (her husband Derrick was the first Kauai finisher at The Kauai Marathon) was going crazy with her new Dow Agrosciences pen that featured a stylus tip, a ballpoint pen, and a flashlight she got while her family got their pumpkins at the Harvest Ag Festival in Waimea.
Great job to all the organizers (Peter Wiederoder can catch those pumpkins really good) who took care of what Stephanie Iona described as 5,000 people giving homes to 1,000 pumpkins (even the sculpted Sandi Kato-Klutke pumpkins went home with someone).
Mike Winiarski of the U.S. Coast Guard station in Nawiliwili had his family in town for the festivities, and Waimea High School homecoming queen Rachel Cacal got to help at the Waimea Project Grad booth with shrimp scampi. How about Becky Komaki and those poi balls (nope, not the Maori kine, this one is ono!)…just had to watch for the Les Tamashiro dust control so the oil didn’t spatter.
Steve Kline (the 12th annual Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital golf tournament is coming Nov. 20 at the Poipu Bay Golf Course!) was thrilled that the Hawaii Health Systems Corp., Kauai Region (KVMH has their craft fair, Saturday) was getting ink with the distribution of 200 free bicycle helmets acquired through the Trauma Fund. Did he get a pumpkin, too?
