HONOLULU — Hawaiian Electric announced the promotion of Jim Kelly to vice president of corporate relations, effective Oct. 3. Kelly joined Hawaiian Electric in June 2016 as manager, corporate relations.
He succeeds Lynne Unemori, who is retiring later this year after 31 years at the company.
Before joining Hawaiian Electric, Kelly was manager of member services and communications for Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, where he was responsible for KIUC’s customer service and communications functions.
Kelly joined the energy industry after a career in journalism as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Massachusetts, Minnesota, California and Hawaii, including work as managing editor and editorial page editor of The Honolulu Advertiser and as editor of Pacific Business News. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
As vice president of corporate relations, Kelly will be responsible for Hawaiian Electric’s corporate communications, customer communication and research and online communications.
