A fundraiser for the Kauai Historical Society is set for 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Smith’s Tropical Paradise.
The Hoike Holoku Gala will feature a procession of dresses with Mistress of Ceremony, Pua Rossi Fukino.
There will be music by Polei Palmeira, Edward Punua, Kirby Keogh, Mark Rossi and Michael Keale, along with hula and pupus.
The Hawaiian holoku was adopted by Hawaiian royalty from the missionaries’ wives in the early 1800s. The style evolved into fitted bodices and sleeves made from the finest fabrics.
Anyone who would like to showcase a special holoku, holomu or mu‘umu‘u at the gala is asked to send KHS its story when purchasing tickets. Men are encouraged to wear their favorite vintage aloha shirt.
Tickets are $55 for KHS members, $65 for nonmembers and $35 for students.
