Alumni and friends of Kapaa High will be checking in by 8:30 a.m. Friday to take part in the school’s 70th anniversary celebration.
“We have about 150 people signed up for Friday’s campus tour, and about 300 already registered for the lu‘au Saturday at the Smith’s Tropical Paradise,” said Daniel Hamada, principal of Kapaa High School.
During the campus tour, which includes lunch at the Kapaa High School campus, guests will listen to remarks from Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr., Rep. Derek Kawakami, the Kauai Complex Area Superintendent William Arakaki, and Art Fujita, president of the Kapaa High School Foundation.
Following the campus tour, guests will enjoy lunch with entertainment being provided by the school’s Polynesian Club before adjourning to the Bernice Hundley Gym to take part in the 2016 Kapaa High School Homecoming Assembly.
The septauagennial celebration continues Saturday with the Kapaa homecoming football game at Vidinha Stadium. The junior varsity squad kicks off at noon followed by the varsity at 2:30 p.m.
Following the game, guests adjourn to the Smith’s Tropical Paradise for the luau.
As part of the 70th anniversary celebration, the Kapaa High School Foundation is soliciting donations to build picnic tables for the school’s campus.
