“Taxes are too high. The government is overregulating you. America is no longer free, “ so says Chip Rogers in an Aug. 22 op-ed. Mr. Rogers proposes eliminating the tax on gasoline; on rental cars; on airline flights; on hotel rooms. This is the mantra of many Republican front groups such as the so-called “Job Creators Network” of which Mr. Rogers is a member.
Another, think tank/501 corporation/Super-PAC, is founded by and run by very rich men who don’t want to pay any taxes at all. Consider their call to eliminate the so-called “Death Tax” that only affects estates over $4 million, less than 1 percent of all American estates. How many reading this letter have an estate over $4 million?
Government needs money for roads, schools and airports. Where is that money suppose to come from? Apparently from those who have no money.
I want better schools and better roads. I’m willing to pay more in taxes if I can get a return on my investment — something that I’m not seeing with the money wasted by the Department of Defense prosecuting stupid wars that are supported by Republican Front Groups like the “Job Creators Network,” whose members profit from those wars.
If taxes are too high, it is because America is wasting those revenues on expanding the American empire, something I am sure Hawaiians understand.
