LIHUE — A Kapaa man was sentenced by Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe on Wednesday to serve five years in prison for stealing a laptop from Walmart on Aug. 9, 2015.
Watanabe ordered that Walter L. Mills, 43, of serve his sentence concurrently with a federal prison sentence the Kapaa man is serving for robbing a Kapaa pharmacy last year.
On Sept. 19, 2015, Mills reportedly used a Colt semiautomatic BB gun while wearing a Halloween mask and allegedly demanded Oxycontin, oxycodone, morphine and methadone — in total about 1,900 pills — according to court records.
After a four-day investigation, Mills was arrested by Kauai police after a minor vehicle accident. After obtaining a search warrant, police found a Colt BB gun, a plastic mask and several Oxycontin pills.
Mills was sentenced in July to about six years in federal prison for the robbery, three years of supervised release with conditions including drug testing, and must pay back $1,0773.42 for the value of the pills.
