HAENA — Two people were helped recently after being injured on Kauai.
A visitor from Virginia was rescued from the Hanakapiai Trail Sunday after breaking a leg.
Shortly after 5 p.m., Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 located the 58-year-old woman roughly a mile from the Hanakapiai Beach landing zone. She was short-hauled by rescuers to the landing zone then loaded into Air 1.
She was airlifted to Princeville Airport where medics then transported her to Wilcox Hospital.
A man visiting from California was hurt in the Waimea Canyon Monday.
Emergency personnel responded to a report of an injured male on the Waipoo Falls Trail about 12:45 p.m. Waimea firefighters and Rescue 3 located the 46-year-old man, who was being assisted by family members.
He was unable to make the 20-minute walk back to the trailhead due to a leg injury, so rescuers walked the patient out using a Stokes Litter.
The man transported himself to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
