WAILUA — A traffic accident temporarily closed Kuamoo Road in Wailua Tuesday night.
According to a preliminary investigation, a Ford sedan was heading west on Kuamoo Road, roughly one mile from the Kuhio Highway intersection, when it struck a bicyclist traveling east in the westbound lane.
The 22-year-old Kapaa man riding the bike suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was transported by medics to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The 20-year-old female driver of the Ford sedan, a Kapaa resident, and her 20-year-old male passenger did not report any injuries.
Kuamoo Road was closed in both directions from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. while officers conducted an on-scene investigation. During the closure, motorists were directed to Olohena Road to access Wailua Homesteads.
