Sam Choy is coming back Sept. 30 when he teams up with Courtyard by Marriott Chef Lucas Sautter and Grammy Award winning musician John Cruz for “A Passion for Performance,” a benefit for the Kauai Concert Association at the Courtyard by Marriott at Coconut Beach.
Chef Choy (he said Kenny Ishii was calling him every other day for nine months to make sure he showed up at the Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair) had Chef Rafael Camarillo running all the way to the end of the commercial tent to fetch a bottle of Kauai honey (they were selling it at the Kauai Grown tent where Nia Klutke, aka The Waffle Queen, said she’s got a waffle special, Sept. 11 at Rob’s Good Times Grill) for the vinaigrette.
He got help from Robert Kawamura and Terry Phillips (Chef Choy said he knew her from diaper-baby days), and Ron Wiley did not hesitate when Chef Choy offered up sampling of the “Chinese malasada” being sold by the Lihue Pop Warner Association (Teddy Arroyo said the Pop Warner Jamboree is Saturday morning at Vidinha Stadium).
OK, time to go check out KIF girls volleyball when Kauai visits Kapaa starting at 5 p.m. (Uncle John Kaneholani said he used to cook with Chef Sam Choy, too).
