PUHI – The public is advised that phase one of the Puhi Road Rehabilitation Project has reached the halfway point, and traffic control changes are planned for the coming weeks, weather permitting.
Phase one spans from Kaumuali‘i Highway to Kaneka Street. The work schedule will be as follows:
w Thursday – The concrete pours for the southbound lane are expected to be completed next week, and the reconstruction work will switch to the opposite side of Puhi Road. However, only southbound traffic will continue to be allowed on the roadway.
w Wednesday, Sept. 7 – Excavation work will begin on the northbound lane, about 300 linear feet at a time, to minimize the inconvenience to area residents. In order to allow for the concrete to cure, there will be approximately a five-day period when residents will not be able to use their driveways.
Puhi Road is being reconstructed using Portland cement concrete to better support heavy truck traffic.
Other improvements include sidewalks, paved shoulders that will be marked as bike lanes, and drainage improvements.
The project is expected to be completed early next year.
