KOLOA — Linda Uyehara, principal of Koloa Elementary School, said the visit by the Koa Kea resort people was the highlight of her day.
“This is better than Christmas,” Uyehara said. “This is the highlight of my day — no, the highlight of the month, except for the re-opening of school.”
The Koa Kea group delivered a load of school supplies, including copy paper, binders, pencils, markers, facial tissues, and flash drives.
“This is what the students need,” Uyehara said. “They didn’t have any of them in the school drives, and there are students, who try and try, but can’t get these. I gave the Koa Kea people a small list based on what the teachers needed, but I didn’t think they would bring this much. The teachers will definitely be happy, and I’m sure they’ll clear this out before the day’s over.”
Danny Aki said Koa Kea resort supports the community because some of the employees have children that attend Koloa School.
“We need to support our community,” Aki said. “This is our home.”
Aki said Koa Kea is also supporting the outreach program by the St. Raphael’s food pantry program, making arrangements for a delivery of food and other supplies as well as providing volunteers to help the St. Raphael’s crew.
