KEKAHA — Members of the Kauai Police Department’s Vice and Special Response teams captured a fugitive on Monday at the Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor in Kekaha.
David Mainaaupo, Jr., 33, was wanted on a parole violation. Police located the Kekaha man about 5:30 p.m. sitting in the backseat of a Chevy pickup that was parked at the harbor. Upon his arrest, officers found a MAC-11 firearm next to the suspect.
Mainaaupo was arrested for a parole violation and possession of prohibited firearm, and was transported to the Kauai Community Correctional Center.
The man has been arrested more than a dozen times and has several prior convictions, including a felony that would prohibit his ownership and possession of a firearm.
The Chevy pickup was seized as evidence and Mainaaupo is expected to face additional charges relating to possession of firearms and drugs based on the result of the search warrant.
