Kudos to Nalani Brun, Kaui Tanaka, Kaleo Carvalho who juggled everything to create a very impressive reaffirmation of the sister city relationship between Kauai and Papeno‘o, Tahiti (Mayor Vetea Avaemai of Papeno‘o even praised Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. for pronouncing the name right).
People have an opportunity to see the visitors showcase their culture during the Kauai Tahiti Fete Saturday and Sunday at the Kapaa Beach Park (Carol Akau-Casil and her Te Mana Rose dancers were chicken skin as they danced to the first number presented when the sister city relationship was signed 16 years ago), and Blane Kua (La‘amea Almeida is the Kauai kumu for The Ladies of Halau Ka Waikahe Lani Malie) was masterful in coordinating everyone.
Kudos, too, to Lori Miller, Tricia Yamashita, JoJo Kawamura and all the volunteers on a great Concert in the Sky (special mahalo to Dean Pigao of Hokuala for the permission to photograph the pyrotechnics from their property!)
OK, time to go check out the Chiefess Kamakahele Middle School media class’ first street event in a long time … Saturday evening at the CKMS.
