NAPALI — A woman died Sunday morning on the Napali Coast after the kayak she and a female friend were in was struck by large waves and capsized.
The woman who died was thrown against rocks in the area, hitting her head and then disappearing into the large surf, according to a news release from the county.
The surviving woman was able to make her way safely onto nearby rocks. She then was able to get assistance from a family who was on a Zodiac in the water.
After locating the unresponsive woman in the water, both women were taken to Kee Beach in the Zodiac. They were met by Engine 1 and Medic 22.
CPR was attempted without success.
The unresponsive woman was transported via ambulance to Wilcox Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
