Coryssa Silvaand Kiara Ruiz each finished with 27 points to share Top Cowgirl honors following the latest Kauai All Girl Rodeo Association event Sunday at the CJM Country Stables in Poipu.
Silva made her mark early, capturing top honors in the 1st D of the 3D barrel racing aboard Diesel. She blazed through the course on a 17.706-second go.
Ruiz finished the event clocking a 19.555 go aboard Lehua to claim fourth place in the 2nd D.
Cheyanne Tannery, capturing high school state honors and heading to the national rodeo, settled for third place in the 1st D aboard Frankie, completing the loop on an 18.243 go.
The Kauai High School graduate came back to reverse the tables in the pole bending event where she finished tops on a 21.291 go, edging out Silva who rode Twister to a 22.074 and second place. Ruiz piloted Lehua to a fifth finish in the 1st D with a 23.069.
Ruiz came back strong in the goat tying event, rising to second place on a 23.913 average on two go’s, two seconds below Kim Medeiros who ended the rodeo as Reserve All Around Cowgirl just two points back of Silva and Ruiz. Medeiros, capturing top honors on a 21.376 go, also took fast time honors in the event with a 10.630 go.
Silva answered with a third finish in breakaway roping, stopping the clock on a 16.45 go, a mere half-second ahead of Ronda Refamonte (16.97).
Ruiz teamed with Eliza Vierra to capture top honors in the dally team roping, the pair nailing a 30.73 average on two go’s.
The next KAGRA rodeo will be held on Aug. 28 with the grand entry starting at 10 a.m. at the CJM Country Stables. It is free.
