PUHI — Island School’s Pre-Kindergarten Learning Center will be relocating to Kauai Community College in the fall.
The relocation of Na Pua Keiki allows Island School to expand its pre-K program while offering KCC the lab school it needs for its Early Education Associate’s Degree program, according to a release from Island School.
Island School will manage the curriculum under the direction of veteran Na Pua Keiki teacher, Sue Macklin, who has been in charge of the school’s program since 2007. Assisting will be Keana Oliveira, who has been working with the class for three years. Two additional teachers will be added over the summer.
“This is a fantastic opportunity,” said Macklin. “There will be many field trips to the Island School campus to the gardens, playground, Wilcox Gymnasium, and to visit our Big Buddies, the fifth-graders.”
Island School high school students interested in teaching will continue to have the opportunity to intern in the pre-K class, Macklin added.
Applications for fall enrollment are being accepted. Spaces at the new center will be reserved for children of KCC faculty, staff and students. Students must be between the ages of 2 years, eight months, and 5 years old, the release said.
