LIHUE — A two-car accident Thursday on Kuhio Highway near Wilcox Memorial Hospital left two people injured and both cars with major damage, according to county officials.
On Thursday, about 12:20 p.m., the Kauai Police Department responded to a report of a traffic collision on Kuhio Highway, just north of Wilcox hospital, said county spokeswoman Sarah Blane.
Police said a 19-year-old Lihue man driving a Saturn sedan was traveling south on the highway when he apparently crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming Nissan minivan.
The 58-year-old female driver of the Nissan was transported to the emergency room with non-life threatening injuries. A 23-year-old passenger in that vehicle also reported non-life threatening injuries and opted to seek treatment on his own. Both vehicles sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.
The inside southbound lane of Kuhio Highway was closed for 30 minutes as crews cleared the roadway
