LIHUE — A Lihue man convicted of stabbing another man seven times and leaving him for dead in a parking lot was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday.
Francisco Keola Manuel, 38, appeared in Fifth Circuit Court before both his family and family of the deceased to hear statements from his defense attorney and the state.
In the early hours of Sept. 26, 2015, Manuel and his pregnant girlfriend Jasmine Duque were together behind the Garden Island Barbecue when a fight broke out between Gary Allen Allianic, 38, and Manuel. During the fight, Manuel pulled out a knife and stabbed Allianic and Duque.
Allianic was later found dead at the scene.
Manuel was charged with second-degree assault for stabbing Duque and second-degree murder for the death of Allianic.
He later pleaded guilty and was convicted of manslaughter.
