KEKAHA — Three women were injured Wednesday morning when a raft leaving the Kikialoa Small Boat Harbor hit a large wave.
Three female passengers — ages 42, 63 and 65 — reported varying degrees of pain to their backs and legs, said county spokeswoman Sarah Blane. Two females were transported by medics to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital. The third female was transported to the hospital by private vehicle, Blane said.
The owner of Napali Explorer told The Garden Island Wednesday that the ocean swells his captain experienced that morning during the boat ride had not been expected and when he departed the harbor, he had a clear view.
The boat hit a wave, which caused the passengers to lose their footing, so when they came back down, they hurt their backs, he said.
He said waves in that area were recorded at 13 feet. They were predicted at about 7 to 8 feet Wednesday morning.
