Cairee Quinones scored the sole bucket for the Rebels Saturday as the Lihue and Hanamaulu girls were run over, 37-2, by Kaulupono in the first of five games played at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center in the summer basketball league.
Liana Hasegawa and Grace Sabo each finished with double-digit scoring to lead the Kaulupono, Division 4 victory. Hasegawa ended the day with a dozen points and Sabo finished with 10 points.
Kaulupono basketball wrapped up a day of victories as all of its teams in Divisions 1, 3 and 4 were victorious against their opponents.
Kaye Serapio, Braelyn Cayaban and Hazel Serapio combined for 24 points, each players firing off eight points to lead the Division 3 Kaulupono to a 36-15 win over Westside. Kierstin Gummerus ended the day by adding six points towards Kaulupono’s win.
During the Division 1 Kaulupono win, 41-28 over the Lihue Kamikaze, Monique Lorenzo topped the scoring with nine points followed by Tori Daligcon adding eight points, and Kaelee Esposo finishing with seven points.
Kaila Shimabukuro topped the Kamikaze effort with a game-high 10 points followed by Ayzlin Kealoha-Albarado adding eight points.
The last girls’ matchup saw Kahili Hunt and Alexis Ann Yam each net a bucket for the Dream Team’s scoring in its 45-5 loss at the hands of the Division 3 Kauai Lynx. Amalya Sales topped the scoring with 24 points followed by Jasmyne Ballesteros adding eight points.
John Russell Batuyong fired off eight points and Jeremiah Harper added six points to fuel the Supersonics’ 23-15 edge over Papalina Orange in the final matchup of the day, a Division 4 boys’ game.
Jacob Reese topped the Papalina effort with six points.
The summer league continues tonight with three matches starting at 6 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Papalina Orange, suffering at the hands of the Supersonics Saturday, will open against the Papalina White in a Division 4 boys’ game followed by the Kauai Lynx, coached by Clarence Sales in the Division 4 arena, tipping off against Kaulupono at 7 p.m. The nightcap will feature the Division 3 Kauai Lynx going up against Kaulupono at 8 p.m.
