WAILUA — Kauai Boy Gen. Eric Shinseki delivered the keynote address Saturday night during the banquet at the 65th Disabled American Veterans state convention at the Hilton Garden Inn in Wailua.
However, the banquet has already reached its capacity, said Mary Kay Hertog, commander of the DAV, Chapter 5, Kauai and the chairwoman for the state convention.
The convention, which includes the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, is intended to draw the different island chapters together to draw up legislation and initiatives which will be presented at the national DAV convention in Georgia at the end of July.
Other businesses include the election of officers for the upcoming year.
Nadine Nakamura, county managing drector, said the DAV is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families.
After being founded in 1920, the DAV has helped more than a million veterans.
Hertog said the convention is open to DAV members or its invitees.
