NAWILIWILI — Deja Vu Surf Hawaii presented its 6th annual Free Keiki Surf Contest with the ceiling of 80 young surfers taking to the bumps on Saturday.
“You just got to rip them little waves,” said Kaimani Villon who was enjoying lunch between heats with some of his buddies. “You gotta catch as many waves as you can in the heat up to 10 waves, and when you get the wave, you gotta try and make points.”
Villon finished his opening heat in second place to Elijah Gonsalves-Gregg.
“This is such a good feeling to see all the kids and their families enjoying the beach,” Miura said. “We’re so happy to be able and support them.”
Jaime Arreola, manager of Duke’s Canoe Club, brought out his crew to serve lunch to the surfers.
“This is all for the kids,” Arreola said.
