KOKEE — A brush fire burned about 50 acres in Kokee on Saturday.
Three Kauai Fire Department companies along with Rescue 3, Air 1 and BC 1 responded to a fire atop a Koke‘e ridge about 1:30 p.m. In addition, a Jack Harter helicopter was dispatched to the scene to assist Air 1 with water drops.
Personnel from the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife also battled the blaze utilizing two bulldozers to cut firebreaks and to help prevent the fire from spreading.
The first responders contained the fire by about 4:30 p.m. and KFD turned the scene over to DOFAW about an hour later with a number of hot spots remaining.
