Devin Almarza is getting excited about the Memorial Day weekend.
“We can’t wait to go,” the Kauai Junior Dragster said. “We have been planning this trip since last year, and now, it’s finally here!”
Almarza is one of six Kauai Junior Dragsters who will be participating in the 20th annual George “Flintstone” Andrade Memorial Weekend Races at the Maui Raceway Park, a National Hot Rod Association-sanctioned track.
“The young drivers have been fundraising every month to assist the group with their travel and accomodations expenses,” said Lori Almarza, Devin’s mother.
Joining Almarza on the Maui trip will be Kauai Junior Dragsters Zailea Lawrence-White, T’Ryane Sakamoto, Ryancie Sakamoto, Ryant Sakamoto and Sanoe Kaluahine.
“We’re going to have fun, and hopefully, bring home some first place trophies,” Devin said.
Lori said anyone wishing to help the youngsters is welcome to send their contributions to GIJD Travel Fund, P.O. Box 912, Lawai, Hawaii 96765.
The Garden Island Junior Dragsters have a strong focus on safe driving and emphasize academic incentives as well as offering travel opportunities, community project participation and awards.
