WAIMEA — A sweet onion festival is scheduled 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Hofgaard Park.
People who received free onion seedlings previously given away by Basilio Fuertes and the Waimea High agriculture class earlier in the year are welcome to bring the results of their gardening efforts for judging.
There will also be a pickled onion contest using the onions which were grown using the free seedlings. People who missed out on the distribution are welcome to call Fuertes at 482-1165 as soon as possible to arrange pick up for onions to use in the pickled onion contest.
Entries for both grown onions and the pickled onion contest must be dropped off at the Waimea Neighborhood Center before 4 p.m. Friday to be eligible for judging.
