Mr. Harold Richard Fernandez, 79, of Ookala, Hawaii died May 2, 2016, at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born in Hilo, Hawaii on July 13, 1936, and was a retired Service Truck Driver for the former Hamakua Sugar Company and Security Guard for Global Protective Service, LLC at Laupahoehoe Transfer Station.
He is survived by his wife, BettyAnn Fernandez of Ookala; son, Randall “Randy” Harold Fernandez of Papaaloa; daughters, June Matsuda of Volcano, Carolyn (Alfonso “Bradda”) Martin, Jr. of Kalaheo, Kauai; Desiree (Clyde) Kaluahine of Hanamaulu, Kauai; brothers, Ernest Thomas of Hilo, Sam Thomas, Sr. of Hilo, Leonard (Claire) Midallia of Papaaloa, sisters: Lyla Ann Midallia of Hilo, Lorraine (Kenneth) Acdal of Paauhau, brothers-in-law: Clyde Saragosa of Hilo, Charles Saragosa of Hilo, Albert Toralba of Hawaiian Oceanview Estates; sisters-in-law, Linda Midallia of Ookala, Margie Carter of Kauai, Evon Seyer of Las Vegas, Nevada, Molly (Roy) McRight of Kailua-Kona and Mona (Delbert) Costa, Sr. of Laupahoehoe, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laupahoehoe, Hawaii from 8 to 9:15 a.m.; funeral Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Ookala Catholic Cemetery. Casual attire is requested.
