Hui O Na Makua Ho’okahi O Kauai hosted a dinner for mothers and its volunteers to celebrate Mother’s Day at Monico’s Restaurant on Friday.
Hui O Na Makua Ho’okahi O Kauai (Single Parents of Kauai), is a grassroots nonprofit serving families since 2000.
The Hui also honored Alisha Hunt, a recipient and eight-year Hui volunteer, who will be graduating from the Kauai Community College nursing program.
“As a single mother it has been a blessing to know Marilyn Mohler and everyone with the Hui,” Hunt wrote. “They have really helped me throughout the years. It has also been a privilege to be a part of such a community as this, in giving back to those who need it most.”
The Hui will also be sponsoring five campers this year at Camp Good News in Haena from July 11 to July 15. This is the fifth year the Hui has sponsored children to attend Camp Good News.
Because of the continued support of Wes Perreira, Michelle Panoke and the staff of the Hawaii Foodbank, Kauai Branch, the Hui distributed 6,477 pounds of food to 876 people for 1,011 meals in 2015
