ANINI — Kauai police report that a male visitor apparently drowned while snorkeling in waters off Anini Beach Thursday afternoon.
His name has not yet been released.
At approximately 5 p.m., police, firefighters and medics were notified of a man floating face down roughly 20 feet from the shoreline.
Bystanders brought the unresponsive man to shore and began CPR. Once on scene, firefighters took over the effort but attempts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful.
The 70-year-old Australia man was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy is pending.
This is Kauai’s fifth drowning of 2016.
