LIHUE — Tibetan Buddhist teacher Khentrul Lodrö T’hayé Rinpoche is coming to Kauai to talk about true mindfulness and how it can change your life. He’s giving a public talk called “Finding Joy in Troubled Times” on Thursday, May 19, 7 to 9 p.m. at Saints Michaels Church in Lihue.
Rinpoche grew up in Tibet where he became a monk at the age of seven.
Since then, he has studied the mind and how our happiness lies within our mind. He is now sharing what he learned with the world.
The talk is geared towards educators, health care providers, social workers, students and anyone interested in learning how to positively develop their mind and the world around them.
Rinpoche has been in the United States since 2002 from which time he has established over twenty practice and meditation centers across North America.
He travels and teaches continuously for eight months of the year, including Hawaii, where he has students on Oahu, Kauai, and Maui. Rinpoche visits the island annually.
His main retreat center is in the Ozark Mountains in Northwest Arkansas.
While all of these groups practice meditation and other techniques for cultivating the mind to transform and improve their lives, there is an emphasis on helping others and each participates in Compassion in Action, a community outreach program to help local communities. These are just a couple of his numerous programs in North America.
