Liz Hahn of Kauai Bettas has been anxiously waiting for the betta show season to start.
After packing her show specimen for shipment to California, starting last Monday, Hahn was relieved to receive results of the Golden State Bettas show, the first of 2016, which wrapped up over the weekend in Long Beach, California.
Hahn was elated to discover that despite earning just one first place, she finished with a doubletail female getting Reserve Best of Variety, Group A in the show that drew 218 entries with 234 fish competing.
Her other high honor came in Variety B: Doubletail where she placed first with a shortfin doubletail male (all colors) in the five category division.
The Kauai betta breeder went on to make a strong showing in the division with two of five second places and three of four third-place awards. She finished with second- and third-place honors in the category with the largest number of entries at eight in the solid female doubletail (both long and short) category.
Hahn’s fish can be found in select pet shops around Kauai.
