Beato Laureta Trinidad Sr.
Beato Laureta Trinidad Sr. of Kalaheo passed away in Garden Isle Health Care on April 18, 2016, at the age of 87. He was born in Bangued, Abra, Philippines on August 22, 1928, and retired from Lihue Airport as a Security Guard.
Beato is survived by his wife, Magdalena Trinidad; two sons, Beato (Gloria) Trinidad Jr., Caesar (Lani) Trinidad; three daughters, Emma Sacdalan, Arlene Turqueza, Juliet Trinidad; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Holy Cross Church with visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Loisann Kehaulani Kaiwi of Anahola, Kauai, Hawaii, formerly Kaneohe, Oahu passed away at the age of 67.
Born on January 23, 1949 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Richard Merlin Link passed away at his home on April 23, 2016 at the age of 82. Born on February 10, 1934 in Sidney, Ohio, he was a Budget Analyst with PMRF and a Marine Veteran.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence A. Link and Zenith I. Link
Richard is survived by his wife, Amelia E. Link; sons, Russell Link and Chris Link of Lihue; daughters, Terry (Franklin) Riopta of Hanamaulu, and Tammy (Raymond) Lopez of Tampa, Florida; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. with services beginning at 5 o’clock.

Philip M. Yamagata
Philip M. Yamagata of Kapa’a, Hawai’i passed away at home on March 15, 2016 at the age of 81. Born on November 30, 1934 in Kapa’a, he was an Army Veteran and the owner of Y. Yoshimura Store.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Yamagata; sisters, Edith (Hideo) Oride and Hanako Yamagata; and brother-in-law, Hisashi Unemori.
Philip is survived by his wife, Helene K. Yamagata; son, Randy K. Yamagata; daughter, Jeri L. Yamagata; sisters, Nancy Unemori, Janet (Isamu) Yoshishige, and Leatrice Tanaka; sister-in-law, Janet Yamagata; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Kapa’a Jodo Mission. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with services to follow from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

James R. Gonsalves
James R. Gonsalves passed away at his residence on April 1, 2016 at the age of 85. Born on April 11, 1930 in Omao, he served in the army during the Korean War and retired as a Staff Sergeant from the Air National Guard, and was a Heavy Equipment Operator at PMRF.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Agnes K. Naka’ahiki Gonsalves; sons, Gavin and Darren (Marissa) Gonsalves; grandson, Ryan Bukoski; great-grand-daughters, Miya Gonsalves and Reyne Silva; parents, John and Mariana Gonsalves; and brother, John Kilauea Gonsalves.
James is survived by his daughter, Jamesette “Keikilani” Johnson of Kekaha; son, Dayne (Antoinette) Gonsalves of Kekaha; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia (Marvin) Perry of Washington State, and Evangeline Hosino of California State; daughter-in-law, Maile Gonsalves; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will take place at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with mass to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at the Kaua’i Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Ricarte Cachero of Kaumakani passed away on April 6, 2016, at the age of 87 in Waimea. Born on March 11, 1929 in Lihue and was a tractor operator with Olokele Sugar Plantation.
He is preceded in death by his mother Guierllma Catchero; father, Damaso Catchero; son, Orlando Cachero; and brother, Erminio Cachero.
Ricarte is survived by his wife, Expediita Cachero; son, Rodney Cachero; daughters, Judy (Jeff) Miller and Daisy (Dave) Oyama; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kimberly) Cachero, Roddy Cachero, Whitney (Lawrence Jr.) Yadao, Jonathan (Jasmine) Souza, Jennifer (Neil) Paguyo, Darcie Oyama, and Jakob Cachero; great-grandchildren, Kaiea Cachero, Ridge Cachero, Harley Rose Cachero, Jaze Souza, Laney Yadao, and Lennox Yadao; sister, Maria (Aurello) Dagdag; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with services from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be followed at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Albert Wesley Umphrey
Albert Wesley Umphrey of Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii departed this life to be at home with his Lord and Savior throughout eternity on March 25, 2016, Good Friday, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, due to the injuries that he sustained in an accident on March 8, 2016.
The second son of Eugene and Naomi Umphrey, Albert was born on February 18, 1940 in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. He was 76 years old. On November 30, 1996, he married Pamela at the Paradise Valley Assembly of God church in Cresco, Pennsylvania, and Pastor Harold Kilborn reunited Albert and Pamela in marriage at The Church at Koloa, in Koloa, Hawaii, on August 25, 2013.
Albert’s survivors include his two sons, Albert W. (Sheryl) Umphrey, Jr., of Arizona, Roger (Lisa) Umphrey, of Pennsylvania, and his daughter, Marsha Umphrey-LaBar, of Pennsylvania, to whom he was devoted, from his first marriage; two stepdaughters, Tantara K. Stevens, of Pennsylvania, and Sonyja O. Rivera of Washington, D.C. His sisters Patricia (Vince) Snyder, of Pennsylvania, and Joyce Irish, of Florida, live on. He leaves behind six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
His parents, Eugene and Naomi Umphrey, preceded Albert in death, as well as his older brother, Eugene Umphrey, brother-in-law, Jack Irish, and his great-grandson, Leif Timothy Umphrey.
As a child, Albert accepted the Lord as his Savior, was industrious and hardworking, and his beautiful blue eyes were the color of the sky and cornflowers.
His wife wishes to extend her gratitude to all of the medical personnel, professionals, and to Albert and Pamela’s church family – The Church at Koloa – for their love, support, and condolences in his final days.
In his honor, a memorial service will be announced shortly.

Hilda M. Apaka of Lihue, Hawai’i, passed away at Hale Kupuna on April 5, 2016 at the age of 88. Born on Dec. 31, 1927, in Lihue, Hawai’i, she was a retired telephone operator.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert K. Apaka Jr., and Richmond Apaka; and parents, Herbert K. Sr., and Leila Apaka.
Hilda is survived by her brother, Kenneth Apaka of Hilo; sister-in-law, Kimie Apaka; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Kaiola Canoe Club at Niumalu Park on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with services at 10 a.m. Interment will be followed at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens.

Lloyd Chester Chong of Honolulu passed away at the age of 67 on March 8, 2016 in Sacramento California. He was born on October 24, 1948 in Waimea Kauai. He was an Honorable Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Joseph Chong, Mother, Margaret Woo Duncan and Sister Iris Hernandez.
Lloyd is survived by his brothers Walter Chong and Gary Chong of California, sisters Sandra Kaui of Kauai and Debra Soto of Honolulu, & numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Hanapepe Veteran’s Pavilion; services will begin at 9:00 a.m.

Editha Castaneda Pascual of Lihue passed away in Hale Kapuna Heritage Home on April 15, 2016, at the age of 92.
She was born in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on September 16, 1923 and retired as a barber with Fil-am Barber Shop and a teacher for many years in the Philippines.
Preceded in death by her husband, Carlos D. Pascual; daughter, Carolina Maghanoy and sister, Lily Castaneda.
Editha is survived by her son, Roberto “Bobby” (Harlean) Pascual; daughters, Elaine (Jon) Pingue, Melody Pascual, Jane Pascual; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.

Dorothy Pauline Dunn Clark
Dorothy Pauline Dunn Clark of Koloa passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 10, 2016, at the age of 80. She was born in Seattle, Washington on July 29, 1935, and retired as a CNA with Hale Kapuna Heritage Home.
Preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Clark I and daughter, Duchess Clark
Dorothy is survived by three sons, Richard W. Clark II, Dennis Clark, Dezma Clark; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Susan, Kathy, Marilynn and Larrie; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eddie “Pal” Lara Sr. of Kalaheo passed away on April 22, 2016 at the age of 79 in Lihue. Born on August 19, 1936 in Kalaheo, he was a retired Ranch Hand with Kekaha Sugar.
He is preceded in death by his son, Eddie Lara Jr.; parents, Manuel and Alice Lara; brothers, Manuel Jr., Alfonso, and Robert.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Rosalind V. Lara; daughter, Rosanne (David) Shimogawa; grandchildren, Marcus Shimogawa and Gavin (Sheena Raposas) Shimogawa; great-grandchild, NaiaLove Shimogawa; brothers-in-law, Tommy Vierra and Leonard (Lillian) Vierra; sisters-in law, Alberta Lara and Kathleen (Del) Corral; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
