Bishop Harrington Littell of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii dedicated the little church in Eleele on the first Sunday in May 1941.
St. John’s Church in Eleele will celebrate its 75th anniversary on May 1, officiated by Bishop Robert Fitzgerald who is coming back from Honolulu for the honor, said Lyn Farman of the St. John’s Church.
Farman said following the service which starts at 10 a.m., there will be a luncheon in the parish hall where displays of old photos, historical documents and memorabilia from the St. John’s history will be set up.
“This display includes items from Boy Scout Troop 89 which was an important community fixture for many, many years,” Farman said. “We are putting up a timeline on one wall with important dates in the life of the church. We’d like to invite guests to write their own memorable St. John’s moments like the date they first came to church.”
