LIHUE — New Police Commissioner Catherine Adams took her oath of office for a two-year term during the Friday meeting.
Adams is a registered nurse and the director of the patient safety at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She has also served two terms on the civil service commission.
In February during her interview, she told county councilmembers that although she didn’t have technical police training, she did have common sense and would like to contribute to the police commission in that way.
She joins just as retiring police commissioner James R. O’Connor leaves. O’Connor, who left at the end of the last meeting, served on the police commission for six years.
