MANA — Padraic Gallagher of the American Red Cross had students create tsunamis during the Earth Day celebration at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Mana.
April is observed as tsunami awareness month and agencies like the American Red Cross, the Kauai Civil Defense Agency, and the state’s Department of Health demonstrated the need for disaster awareness and disaster preparedness kits.
Hands-on exhibits from more than 30 agencies collected at PMRF to offer Earth Day information on the relationship of man and Mother Earth as well as the need to care for the earth.
Earth Day is celebrated April 22 for the past 46 years. It is a movement that continues to inspire, challenge ideas, ignite passion, and motivate people toward environmental issues.
“We live here,” said Heidi Alvarez, a seventh-grade teacher at the Waimea Canyon Middle School. “How do we give back?”
