LIHUE — The bake sale went better than expected Wednesday in the lobby of the office complex at Pahe‘e Street. Coffee, baked goods, handmade origami earrings by Shannon McHenry, banana bread, and even lucky number tickets were among the offerings.

Mary Lu Kelley, Kauai coordinator for People Attentive to Children, said since the three nonprofits in the building, including Red Cross, were participating in the annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk on May 14, they decided to pool their resources for the bake sale, with proceeds set aside for the charity walk.
“I brought in some brownies and they went, fast,” Kelley said. “This was good. It is so good, we’ll be doing it on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon.”
Leadership Kauai also participated in the event, represented by Janece Yatsko who made a point of recording the event during the early moments when the crowd eagerly sought first picks.
The Visitor Industry Charity Walk will take place May 14.
