PRINCEVILLE — A 23-year-old Kilauea man died at the scene of a two-car collision that occurred on Kuhio Highway near the Princeville Airport Saturday evening.
His identity has not yet been released.
According to a preliminary investigation, about 6 p.m., the Kilauea man was driving south in a Nissan sedan, when he apparently crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Toyota sedan, a county press release stated.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, a 62-year-old Hanalei woman, was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital where she remains in stable condition.
There were no passengers in either vehicle at the time of the crash.
Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions for roughly four hours as KPD’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation. The highway was reopened at 10:15 p.m.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
This is the fourth traffic-related fatality on Kauai this year.
