Edward William ‘Red’ Carveiro
Edward William “Red” Carveiro was born on Sept. 30, 1937, and passed away on March 23, 2016, at the age of 78.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he retired as an equipment operator from the State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation, Highway Division.
Edward is survived by his wife, Yvonne Freitas Carveiro; daughter, Annette (Ernie) Barreira; son, Dwane (Glory) Carveiro; grandchildren, Aaron, Brittney and Erik Barreira, and Quentin and Gareson Carveiro; brother, Charles (Claire) Carveiro of Lawai; sisters, Janet Carveiro, Isabelle Tavares of Kalaheo, and MaryAnn (Allen) VanderVeen of Washington State; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Visitation from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.

Kiyoshi ‘Punky’ Tanabe
Kiyoshi “Punky” Tanabe, 82, of Eleele passed away on April 10, 2016. He was a retired gardener for the Allerton Gardens.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Ho, brothers, Mikio Tanabe and Fred (Janice) Tanabe, brother-in-law,William Blaine and nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. The family graciously requests no koden, flowers and gifts.

Gavino G. Ponting Jr.
Gavino G. Ponting Jr., of Hanapepe, passed away in Hanapepe on April 6, 2016, at the age of 62. Born on October 16, 1953, in Pacdal, Baguio City, Philippines and was a maintenance engineer with Poipu Sheraton.
He is survived by his wife, Nida M. Ponting; sons, Craig Aaron Ponting of Honolulu and Joshua Ponting of Hanapepe; brothers, Eduardo (Debbie) Ponting of Kekaha, Rafael Magayanes of California, and Roberto (Christine) Magayanes of Washington; sisters, Dolores Ponting of Philippines, Mercidita Ponting of Philippines, Adelaide Duclan of Philippines, Josefina Mangawit of Philippines, Corazon (Domingo) Sarmiento of Kekaha, Vida Galang of California, Marcelina Magayanes of Georgia, Raquel Caracas of Philippines, Alma (Danilo) of Philippines and Necita (Eladio) Claveria of Philippines; along with numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Waimea Sacred Hearts Church. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. with Mass at 11 a.m. and a Celebration of Life to follow.
The family suggests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

James R. Gonsalves
James R. Gonsalves passed away at his residence on April 1, 2016, at the age of 85. Born on April 11, 1930, in Omao, he served in the army during the Korean War and retired as a Staff Sergeant from the Air National Guard, and was a Heavy Equipment Operator at PMRF.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Agnes K. Naka’ahiki Gonsalves; sons, Gavin and Darren (Marissa) Gonsalves; grandson, Ryan Bukoski; great-grand-daughters, Miya Gonsalves and Reyne Silva; and parents, John and Mariana Gonsalves.
James is survived by his son, Dayne (Antoinette) Gonsalves of Kekaha; daughter, Jamesette (Keikilani) Johnson of Kekaha; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia (Marvin) Perry of Washington State, and Evangeline Hosino of California State; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will take place at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha on Saturday, April 30, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at the Kaua’i Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe.
The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcomed.

Ricarte Cachero
Ricarte Cachero of Kaumakani passed away on April 6, 2016, at the age of 87 in Waimea. Born on March 11, 1929, in Lihue and was a tractor operator with Olokele Sugar Plantation.
He is preceded in death by his mother Guierllma Catchero; father, Damaso Catchero; son, Orlando Cachero; and brother, Erminio Cachero.
Ricarte is survived by his wife, Expediita Cachero; son, Rodney Cachero; daughters, Judy (Jeff) Miller and Daisy (Dave) Oyama; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kimberly) Cachero, Roddy Cachero, Whitney (Lawrence Jr.) Yadao, Jonathan (Jasmine) Souza, Jennifer (Neil) Paguyo, Darcie Oyama, and Jakob Cachero; great-grandchildren, Kaiea Cachero, Ridge Cachero, Harley Rose Cachero, Jaze Souza, Laney Yadao, and Lennox Yadao; sister, Maria (Aurello) Dagdag; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. with services from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be followed at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
The family suggests aloha attire and flowers are welcomed.
