HANALEI — Ocean Safety officials have closed Hanalei Bay to swimming until further notice due to a shark sighting.
Lifeguards report that a roughly six-foot gray shark was seen near a surf spot known as “Grandpa’s,” fronting the Anae Road beach parking lot Tuesday afternoon.
‘No Swimming’ and ‘Shark Sighted’ signs have been posted along the beach and the public is advised to stay out of the water until further notice. Lifeguards on jet skis continue to monitor the area.
The beach will remain closed until at least tomorrow morning when lifeguards will reassess if the beach can be reopened.
