This was a heck of a week for music starting with the Alu Like kupuna (wow! having talent like John Mahi and Napua Hookano is a treasure). The kupuna were helping Nalani Brun and Lani Kaui (she said she gotta start practicing old style hula again) with the dockside greeting of the NCL Pride of America. Some of these kupuna have nice long backgrounds in music.
Kudos to George Thronas at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa (hope Diann Hartman got her Lexus well again) on the great musical lineup Thursday. Mahalo to Laurie Ho for the email advisory. There must have been a lot of people on that e-blast because Coach Kirk Correa had his family in tow, Coach Brian Aiwohi must’ve been at the KIF baseball game before joining Akala and daughter Brylynn. And Brylynn (congratulations on finishing first runner up in the Merrie Monarch Miss Aloha Hula competition!) wasn’t the only one there because Robert Cazimero got called on to do some numbers (Maryanne Kusaka was lucky no one knew she could do the hula; otherwise, she might have had to do a few numbers as well).
And kudos to Zachary Lum and all those Kamehameha Glee Club alumni on a great performance.
