LIHUE — The Kapaa man who was just acquitted of multiple traffic charges, including a 2013 DUI accident that left a woman paralyzed from the shoulders down, was arrested a week later for driving under the influence.
Kainalu Gayagas, 24, was arrested by Kauai Police officers Thursday at 5:49 p.m on Kaumualii Highway at the Kipu Road Junction in Lihue, and was given a mandatory blood draw. He was cited with a $750 fine and released on his own recognizance.
He is scheduled to appear in district court on May 11 at 9:30 a.m.
Gayagas, a soldier with the U.S. National Guard, was acquitted March 24 of second-degree reckless endangering, inattention to driving, and reckless driving for a 2013 accident that left former girlfriend Jaycie Kobayashi Apilado of Hanamaulu in a wheelchair.
