LIHUE — Willie K, winner of multiple Na Hoku Hanohano Awards with 13 albums under his belt, closes the 33rd season of E Kanikapila Kakou Hawaiian Music with a Monday performance at Kauai Beach Resort.
Doors to the Jasmine Ballroom will open at 6 p.m. Willie K and his band are scheduled from 6:30-9 p.m.
Willie Kahaiali‘i was raised in Lahaina, Maui. He began entertaining at age 10, becoming skilled in playing country and western, jazz, salsa, rhythm and blues, rock and Hawaiian music.
He changed the direction of contemporary Hawaiian music in the 1990s with a series of award-winning recordings. He went on to earn more accolades as a writer and producer, including a Grammy nomination.
He’s performed all over the world and on national TV during the NFL’s Pro Bowl halftime show. He’s shared the stage with legends such as B.B. King, Santana, Al DiMeola and Willie Nelson.
E Kanikapila Kakou showcases musicians, composers, kumu hula, storytellers and artists steeped in Hawaiian music, dance and culture share their unique talents with the audience. It is a program of the private, nonprofit Garden Island Arts Council.
General admission tickets at the door to Monday’s show are $38.
