KAPAA — Karin Panui and her sister Made Jimenez have the best items, said Diane Piskun of Buffalo, New York, during the Saturday Market at the All Saints’ Preschool and Church in Kapaa.
“We always make it a point to come and see what they have,” Piskun said. “Today, we have visitors from Massachusetts, Patty and Dennis, who we invited to come with us.”
The market held on the second Saturday of the month coincides with the county’s eWaste program.
“The program is going to end soon,” said Cece Caldwell. “We set it up so people wouldn’t be making all those trips to the collection site. They drop it off here and we save anywhere up to a dozen trips to Lihue, if not more. We probably have one, or two more times remaining so I’m hoping they work out something.”
The Saturday Market for March benefited the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event coming up in April.
“The kids got a sleepover out of this,” said Rev. Ryan Newman. “The ladies hosted the kids from after school, Friday to prepare for this market, and they ended up staying overnight.”
