The six Kauai Gymnastics Academy gymnasts are champions.
“We were the only Level 8 team entry so we were recognized as the Level 8 Team Champions,” said Jack Leonard, the owner and coach of Kauai Gymnastics Academy. “The experience of the meet was huge. The KGA gymnasts were so proud to compete together, displaying their aloha spirit throughout the meet. Everyone who was involved felt honored to be part of this very special experience.”
The gymnasts, including Ashlynn Questin, Ashley Ricciardi, Angela Ventura, Lani Johnson, Kaisa Ishikawa and Mia Ricciardi, were competing in the Mega Meet in Las Vegas which wrapped up Sunday.
Questin finished first in vault, and second in uneven parallel bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. She also finished second All Around.
Ashley Ricciardi finished second in vault and earned gold medals in uneven parallel bars, balance beam, floor exercise for a first finish in All Around.
Angela Ventura walked off with third place in all events and finished with bronze in All Around.
Lani Johnson, also doubling as a coach for the other members, finished second in vaults, fourth in the uneven parallel bars, second in balance beam, and third in floor exercise leading to a fourth finish All Around.
Kaisa Ishikawa finished fourth in vaults but rebounded for gold in the uneven parallel bars, balance bar, floor exercise and first All Around.
Mia Ricciardi rounded out the medal count with a second in vault, third in uneven parallel bars, first in balance beam, third in floor exercise, and All Around third.
“My wife Kay, an assistant coach, and I were so thrilled to see the girls compete with not only artistic grace, but emotional spirit and support for each other,” Jack said. “They competed as family, and celebrated as family, even at a celebration dinner where our waitress was from Kauai. We are so proud of them in so many ways.”
