Glen Shigeru Yamamoto
Glen Shigeru Yamamoto of Puhi passed away at home on Feb. 29, 2016, at the age of 58. He was born in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, on Feb. 19, 1958, and was employed by Kauai Island Utility Cooperative as a field services representative.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Yamamoto; sister, Crystal Pia; and brother, Randal Yamamoto.
Glen is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Bec” Yamamoto of Puhi; seven children, Lauren “Maka” (Kahoku) Yamamoto of Kapaa, Jordan “Kai” (Pita) Yamamoto of Lawai, Anthony (Chelsie) Osorno of Kapaa, Benjamin (Thersha) Osorno of Kapaa, Ethan “Ekana” Yamamoto of Honolulu, Matthew (Nalikka) Osorno of Anahola, Kiona Esteban of Manoa; mother, Fujiko Yamamoto; seven grandchildren, Lilly Latu, Leila Yamamoto, Angel Cansino, Melelani Higuchi, Leinaala Higuchi, Aracela Osorno, Legend Latu; siblings, Debbie (Glenn) Taba, Keith (Janice) Yamamoto, Gail (Dwayne) Sandberg, Joy (Roy) Kamanu, Joan Yamamoto; sister-in laws, Aileen “Lynko” Yamamoto, Mary Martin; brother-in-laws, Jacob “Jake” Pia, James (Ece) Mabry; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Glen’s life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Lydgate Park from 2 p.m.

Joel Puuwai Miyashiro Sr.
Joel Puuwai Miyashiro Sr. of Keapana passed away at home on March 1, 2016, at the age of 51. He was born in Lihue, Kauai, on March 29, 1964, and was employed by the federal government with Homeland Security (TSA).
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marian Miyashiro and sister, Jeannie Miyashiro.
Joel is survived by his wife, Alison Miyashiro; one son, Joel Puuwai (Gemmalyn) Miyashiro Jr. and their children, Anjoelina, Alyssiya; two daughters, Cheilee (Andrew) Baltazar and their children, Carlee-Rose, Andrew “Kaiea,” Kailee-Ann; Alia (Alan Guillermo) Miyashiro and their children, Alijah and Aliviah all of Keapana; father, Wilson Miyashiro Sr. of Kapahi; numerous siblings, aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Joel’s life will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016, at St. Catherine Church with visitation from 8 a.m., eulogy at 10:30 a.m., and services beginning at 11 a.m.

Juana Palaroan Catbagan of Kapaa passed away at home in the Philippines on March 5, 2016, at the age of 92. She was born in San Juan, La Union, Philippines, on June 24, 1923. She was a dedicated housewife.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Erlina and Maria Elena.
She was survived by her husband, Bernabe “Lino” Catbagan; five daughters: Magdalena (Henry) Cabading of Kapaa, Marcela (Warlito) Cabading of Kapaa, Milagros (Augusto) Sajonia of Kapaa, Mele (Arnold) Acosta of Kapaa, Ellen (Scott) Takai of Honolulu; five sons: Mariano (Felicidad) Catbagan of Wailua, Mamerto (Mercelina) Catbagan of Texas, Mario (Chanel) Catbagan of Kapaa, Maximo (Edna) Catbagan of Puhi, Manuel (Merlina) Catbagan of Kapaa; 34 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Juana’s life will be held in San Juan, La Union, Philippines.

Bernice B. Ornellas of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, died on Feb. 19, 2016, at the age of 89.
Born on March 17, 1926, in Kealia, Kauai, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Ornellas Jr., parents, John and Ida Barretto Sr., and brothers, John and John Jr.
She is survived by son, Robert “Bobby” Ornellas; daughter, Betty Ann Ornellas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of life is on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at St. Catherine Church. Visitation at 9 a.m. Mass at 10, flowers, casual wear — pink.

Ray Aukai (Nahulu) Manaku of Kauai passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 18, 2015, at the age of 65. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Sept. 7, 1949, and worked as a chef on Kauai and Oahu.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ke Kanaka Aukai Nahulu and Roseline June Rodrigues Manaku; and grandparents, James and Helen Nahulu.
Ray is survived by his longtime companion Geri Kawaihalau (Manaku) of Kauai; daughter, Malia Kuleimana (Brian) Anspach of Oahu; sons, Jerry Kawaihalau of Oahu, Jason (Kelly) Kawaihalau of Oceanside, California, and David Kawaihalau-Manaku of Kauai; one grandson; brothers, James (Shirley) Manaku, Clifford Manaku, Reggie Manaku, Dan (Tammey) Manaku; sisters, Cindy Cummings, Llewellyn Manaku, Rose Decosta; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Kapaa Soccer Field (old police station/ocean side) from noon to 5 p.m. Services on Oahu are pending.

Richard Thomas Carveiro Sr.
Richard Thomas Carveiro Sr. was born on Oct. 20, 1934, in Port Allen and returned home to our Lord on Feb. 23, 2016. Honorably discharged from the United States Army, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for McBryde Sugar. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Adeline Carveiro; brothers Robert (Esther) Carveiro, Manuel Carveiro Jr., and Lawrence Carveiro; brother-in-law Thomas Vidinha Sr. and sister-in-law Joyce (Henry) Abreu.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lydia Vidinha Carveiro, one brother Albert (Maxine) Carveiro of Kaumakani, sister-in-laws Nora Carveiro of ‘Ele’ele, Gwen Carveiro of Kalaheo and Carol Vidinha of Kalaheo; sons Ricky (Kathy) Carveiro Jr. of Lawai, David (Allison) Carveiro of Kalaheo, Calvin (June Manini) Carveiro of Kalaheo; granddaughters Alyssa-Lynn Carveiro and Layleigh Carveiro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on March 19, 2016, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested. Family requests that flowers please be omitted.

Robert E. “Bob” Farlander of Hanapepe, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away on March 7, 2016, at the age of 72.
Born on Dec. 15, 1943, in Kankakee, Illinois, he was a contractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Ines Farlander.
He is survived by brothers, James (Glenda) Farlander of Naples, Florida, Lee Farlander of Dallas, Texas, William “Bill” (Joanne) of Hanapepe, Kauai, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

May Mitsuko Yamaguchi of Lihue passed away in Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 15, 2016, at the age of 81. She was born in Lihue, Kauai, on June 19, 1934, and retired from McDonald’s Corporation in Lihue.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruitaro and Miyoshi Yamaguchi.
May is survived by two sisters, Harumi Nanbu of Lihue and Ellen Okada of California. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
